Cho vào thau gà ngũ vị hương, mật ong, 1 muỗng cà phê đường, muối, 1 muỗng canh nước mắm, hành tím băm. Thoa đều hỗn hợp gia vị lên bề mặt đùi gà, ướp khoảng 3 tiếng.
Đun nóng 2 muỗng canh dầu ăn ở chảo, cho thịt gà vào chiên vàng đều hai mặt.
Đổ bớt dầu ăn ra chén, thêm 2 muỗng cà phê nước mắm, 1 muỗng cà phê đường, 1 muỗng cà phê dầu hào và một ít nước lọc đun sôi, lửa nhỏ.
Cho tiếp thịt gà vào đun cùng, đậy kín nắp nồi để thịt gà được chín và thấm gia vị, nếu cạn nước có thể đổ vào một ít nước sôi.
Đun từ 15 đến 20 phút, nêm nếm lại tùy theo khẩu vị. Rắc hành lá vào, tắt bếp.
